Friends visit to Sidmouth, a friends farewell and FUN in April continued...

Hello all you awesome people!

I thought it was about time for another update before I get too far behind.

So last time I left it at my 22nd Birthday and now we move on to Saturday the 16th of April. In the afternoon 4 of my friends from Exeter came to visit me in Sidmouth :)! It was lovely to have them here, I gave them a tour of where I am working and we went out for lunch and explored the shops in Sidmouth and went for a walk on the sea front. And of course as always here are a couple pictures.

And in the evening on the 16th of April my awesome friend Veronika had her farewell party at the hotel because she was leaving to Denmark. We had a party after everyone had finished work for the evening in the staff room. Veronika even curled my hair for it. She has been gone about a week now, I really miss her. And yes of course there are pictures of the party, here are a few. The party ROCKED :)!

There are lots more photos from my trip to Belfast, more photos of Sidmouth, more photos of my birthday, more photos of the farewell party, I will try get around to making some collages when I have time.

I went to bed at about 2am after the party and then got up at about 6:30am for work the next morning haha but I actually felt ok.

On the 18th of April Veronika, Dominik and I took a walk around Sidmouth and yes I took photo's.

We saw a starfish :)! I had seen a few here but this is my first photo of one.

Then on the 19th of April which was Veronika's last night just about we all had a braii (barbeque)on the beach in the evening after work. And here is a pic from it ;)!

On Wednesday morning, April 20th I worked until lunch time and then I was off until Friday. And on Thursday the 21th of April I went for my first run in Sidmouth along the sea front and up and down some roads. And amazingly my ankle didn't feel strange or hurt. In June last year I fell running and badly damaged my ankle and I didn't run until once in January this year but my ankle still hurt and now it seems that all the pain has gone! So I am soooo happy that I can get back in to my running again :-)! I ran on Thursday and Friday and Saturday, only short runs but I felt so good after them. Thursday the 21st of April was beautiful because I was sitting on the beach at sunset. I had spent the morning exploring the shops in Sidmouth and I bought a computer cable which enables me to have two display screens now, one on my monitor and one on my laptop, so now for example I can be on facebook on my monitor and skype on my laptop, in other words I can do two things at once and it's really awesome for a computer geek like me :)!

On Friday some of my friends on the staff and I went and tanned on the beach. And then a couple of the guys and I jumped in the sea! Yip in the freezing cold English sea! I didn't find it as cold if you keep moving. Then I climbed up some of the rocks by the sea with one of them and we were going to go right to the end but I chickened out because I didn't like climbing high up on the rocks and looking at the dark big gaps in between them.

Oh yes and on Friday after my run I went swimming in the sea and I did the same on Saturday too. On Saturday I was the ONLY one swimming lol but hey I actually don't find it too cold but I was really hot after running on both days. On Saturday my friend and I lay on the beach in the sun for hours. My one friend said yesterday I am going to get sick if I keep running and get really hot and then jump in freezing cold water and guess what, surprise surprise I now have a cold lol.

Sunday the 24th of April - Easter Sunday (Pascha in Greek)! On Easter Sunday I was working in the morning. Then in the afternoon I caught the bus in to Exeter (my first time in Exeter in a month) and went to one of my friends houses in Exeter for an Easter Sunday barbeque. I met a lot of new people and learn a lot about the Indian culture. Then I caught the bus back to Sidmouth because I was waitressing in the evening but the bus times had changed because it was a public holiday and I got back to my room about 15 mins before my evening shift so I literally changed quickly and ran to work lol! I had a wonderful Easter Sunday, I hope you all did too!

I am Greek Orthodox and Easter is huge in our culture. In Zimbabwe we used to go to church at about 11pm on Saturday right through until 1am on Easter Sunday and when midnight struck we would sing the Christos Anesti hymn over and over and the church bells would ring and we'd all be outside holding candles and singing, it was amazing. In fact the whole of Easter week is a very memorable occasion in the Greek Churches and we have church every night and some mornings the week leading up to Easter. After the church service on Saturday night my family and I would go to my aunts at about 1 or 2am where she'd have over 100 people from church there and we'd have a big easter feast because most people fast during Easter (they especially fast meat) and we'd only end up going home around 4am or 5am. Then we'd get up for a lunch on Easter Sunday which was usually at the Greek Club with just about all the Greeks in Zim. I had some truly magical Easters in Zimbabwe. In fact every Easter I have had in Zim or the Uk has been awesome :)!

This is what the Greeks sing over and over in Church on Easter Sunday and also before our meals for 40 days after Easter. It means "Christ is risen from the dead,
Trampling down death by death,
And upon those in the tombs
bestowing life!"

Today, woah I made it all the way to today finally, I think this is my longest blog post! I went on the beach this afternoon and sat in the sun with friends and I even bought myself an icecream :! It was departure day today so that's a super busy day for me in housekeeping. Then I had waitressing in the evening and now I've just had my tea and I've been updating my blog :)))!

Remember before I said I had some incredibly awesome news to tell you. Well something may be happening with it hopefully tomorrow :))) which means it's getting more and more exciting by the minute. If you don't know already know I will update it on my facebook and blog soon! I have told quite a few people because I have been too excited to keep it in haha!

Stay tuned for more adventures in the life of Nicola Hill!

What I did on my 22nd Birthday (14th April)! :D :)))

Dear all you special people!

So here it is, I'm 22 years old as of the 14th of April. Which as I have mentioned in previous blog posts is also the day the Titanic started sinking. I would consider this as me now being an adult because I'd say up to 21 you're still fairly young, not even legal to drink in some countries. So from 22 onwards your adult journey begins, well mine does anyway. 22 is still young though, yes it is, I'm saying this especially to those people who called me ancient on my birthday (namely my sister haha) I'm joking I know my friends and family love teasing me and I'm a big teaser too :P! Actually wait forget it I am old ;just kidding. They say your in your twenties you have some of the best times in your life. Well I can say from this year that could be true, this year got off to a fantastic start and it has continued to rock on haha :)!

I luckily had the day off on my birthday, my birthday fell on my day off so how awesome was that! I woke up on Thursday morning, well actually I had not really been sleeping properly to begin with because from after midnight on Thursday people were writing on my facebook wall and I get all facebook notifications on my blackberry. It was wonderful it really meant a lot to those of you who wished me a happy birthday by facebook, or skype, or emails or phone calls. Thank you very much for your birthday wishes! I actually spent quite a while sitting in the staff room replying everyone and I skyped and phoned people throughout the day.

The absolute highlight of my birthday was some absolutely incredibly wonderfully awesome news that someone told me! It was the best birthday present ever! However I shall be keeping you in suspense until a certain time this month, some of you already know.

In the evening of my birthday I went out with one of my friends for drinks and then later I invited all the staff out for drinks after work and so almost all of us went to a pub and we had an awesome time :)! And yes for those of you that know me well there are photos, here are some of the pictures :). In fact all the staff joke now whenever we do something they say it will be on facebook later because they know I always update my facebook with pictures and I write what I'm doing lol :P! In fact today a couple of my friends said something like we will always know what is going on with you Nicola because it will be on facebook. Haha I just love these sites and blogs and things because I can update everyone at once and include everyone in on my life :-)!

I'M 22 Y'ALL :-)!

I am so blessed with such amazing friends and family and I am blessed by getting to know and meet new people too. I love adding people to my life and keeping in touch with those I know.

Thank God at 22 I support myself, I am settled in England, I have a good job and amazing friends in the Uk! And each new day brings something special! Each person in my life is someone special!

I have even more news but I wont write it all tonight because I have to do this thing called sleep haha and I have to get up early for work tomorrow but I will update the rest of what followed after my birthday soon so stay tuned ;)!

By the way if you don't know already know you can subscribe to my blog by email if that would be easier for you because I added a subscription link. Just look on the right hand side of my blog and where it says "Follow by email" type in your email address and click "Submit" and voila you will be following my blog if you want :)!.

Thank you all for bringing so much joy in to my life and for being my friend,
Love you guys always,
God Bless,
Nicola Hill

Spring has Sprung in the UK:)))!

Hi All :-)!

Today is actually my 22nd Birthday, however I will update more news later. For now I am updating most of what I have been up to since Spring has sprung :D!

It has been about 2 weeks since my last blog post. I have been back to full time work. As I mentioned before the hotel is getting busier and busier as we approach summer. In fact even the weather has been improved - Spring has officially sprung :)))!

Since last Wednesday I have been on the beach every day, with the exception of yesterday when it was raining and cloudy haha, even then I did attempt to go on the sea front but when my umbrella nearly got blown away I thought it was best if I gave it a miss :).

On Friday the 8th of April a couple of my friends and I went Kayaking on the sea :)! Our boss leant us his kayaks. It was my first time kayaking let alone on the sea. I have been canoeing before on a lake in Zimbabwe. It was absolutely amazing :))) we kayaked all along the coast of Sidmouth and saw some stunning views! We also got an awesome surprise!!!! There was a seal about 2 metres from our kayaks, what a fantastic sight! Not to mention kayaking is also a very good workout our arms were sore for days after haha but I love fitness and sport :)! We also kayaked to a particularly beautiful part and pulled our kayaks in to the beach and walked around the beach. My friends kayak capsized (they were sharing one and I was on the other) and they fell in and I was laughing at them and so later I promised them I would jump in the sea. So when we reached the main spot we were aiming for, I jumped off my kayak in to the water. Bare in mind this is English water, in a very cold country, I soon realised that very shortly haha. It was like jumping in to a bucket of ice water, I scrambled back on my kayak so fast but at least I can say I swam in the sea in Sidmouth even if it was for about a minute lol.

The next days that followed we had some amazing weather. I had icecreams on the beach with a friend and we just lay in the sun and other friends and I lay just soaking up the sunshine. The sun is a rare occurrence in England. On Sunday the 10th of April I had my first braai (or barbeque as the English call it) on the beach with some of my friends on the staff. It was awesome and I tried out some Polish food which was great. Here are some pictures from our braai (it's called a braai in Africa).

Oh yes and on the 6th of April I had my hair cut in a new style with a side parting. And then later that day my friend and I went on the beach. Here are some pictures:

I have lots of photos of Sidmouth in Springtime that I took the other day which I will make in to a collage and add on my blog. In the meantime I will leave you with my favourite picture of the flowers here in Sidmouth in Spring. I had an amazing walk the other day and saw a whole new area of Sidmouth, it was stunning! You will see in the collage. I also need to make a collage of my Belfast trip. All will be coming soon.

Thank you all for taking the time to read my blog and always remember that I love hearing your news too :-)! I am blessed to have such wonderful people in my life and I always love meeting and getting to know new people too.

And so I will add more later. In the meantime I am going to get back to my birthday :-)!

Love to you all, stay blessed xoxo

My holiday in Belfast, Northern Ireland with the Gibsons 21-29th March 2011

Hi everyone :)!

Last week I had a wonderful holiday in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was fantastic to see my friends there and see Belfast too.

Me and Hannah

I found out a very interesting fact while I was there. Did you know that the Titanic was built in Belfast? Well I didn't. I've always known about the Titanic and researched it because the Titanic started sinking on the 14th of April which is my birthday now. It didn't actually completely go under on the 14th though, it sank on the 15th of April but it hit the iceberg on the 14th. I am sure most of you know about the Titanic from the popular movie. What was very nice was the Gibsons took me to the Titanic quarter (the area the Titanic was built) and I got to see where the Titanic was made and placed and everything. That was super exciting for me because the story of the Titanic is one of the big historic events I know about. So it was nice to walk right where the Titanic stood. It was started in 1909 and completed in 1911 and it hit the iceberg on APRIL 14th 1912 at 11:39p.m. It had an insufficient number of lifeboats on board the ship. 706 survived out of a total of 2,223 passengers and crew aboard, so the total loss of life was 1517 persons. It was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast.

We walked around the area the Titanic was built and this is a picture of me and where the Titanic was kept and more pictures of it (not sure what it is called)and it's the size of the Titanic so you can get an idea of how big it was.

I had a very nice relaxing break. It was brilliant catching up with the Gibsons and spending time with them. And watching their dog go crazy everytime the post man drove up to the house to deliver the mail :). It was nice going to for a walk in the neighbourhood with Hannah and lying on the road :)!

I got taken out to have a traditional Irish Breakfast on the Saturday I was there. It tasted as good as it looks ;).

And I later I explored the City of Belfast, including the dome, city hall, victoria street and others. I also bought some Irish souvenirs.

On Sunday we went to the Titanic quarter as I have mentioned above. We also went to Cave Hill and saw the whole view of Belfast from high up and saw McArt's fort. There was also a fire as they were burning grass and it got a bit out of control and a fire engine arrived and we watched the firemen men putting it out.

I almost forgot, Belfast has a huge waterfall, here is Raymond standing next to it.

Belfast's huge waterfall.

All in all it was a fantastic holiday with wonderful people and the beautiful city of Belfast.

And now I am back to full time work. I've been very busy since I got back. I arrived back in England on Tuesday and I started work on Wednesday. Tonight was our busiest night we have had in a long time and the hotel was almost full.

I will also be making a photo collage of my Belfast trip ;)! Thank God for that awesome adventure and awesome company :-)!

Love to you all, and always love hearing your news too,
Nix
